Spanning the 2011-2018 model years, the BMW F12/F13/F06 lineage served as the third generation of the 6 Series, bridging the gap between the older E63 and the all-new 8 Series (G15) that followed.
Body Styles and Chassis Codes
BMW grouped the trio under the F12 codename, but each suffix identified a distinct body style. F12 designated the two-door convertible, F13 the two-door coupé, and F06 the longer-wheelbase four-door Gran Coupé. All three used aluminium-intensive structures to trim weight while keeping overall width at a broad 1 894 mm.
Production Years and Market Positioning
Production ran from 2011 to 2018, positioning the range as BMW’s executive grand tourers. Positioned above the 5 Series yet below the forthcoming flagship 8 Series, the lineup blended long-distance comfort with visible sporting intent until the final cars left the Dingolfing plant in early 2018.
