In 1974 Lamborghini released the Countach, a razor-edged successor to the Miura that would define the supercar silhouette for two decades.
Design
Drawn by Bertone, the Countach introduced the “Italian Wedge” profile: 1.07 m tall, 4.14 m long, and just 2 m wide, with a cab-forward cockpit and signature scissor doors. The sharp creases and low stance broke from the flowing lines of the 1960s and became a template copied worldwide.
Performance
Mounted amidships, the longitudinally positioned V12 pushed the 1 450 kg chassis to 290 km/h. The layout behind the seats delivered super-balanced weight distribution and the dramatic, cab-forward driving position that later supercars would emulate.
Legacy
From 1974 to 1990, the Countach remained in production with minimal styling revisions, outselling its predecessor and hand-setting the stage for the 1990 Lamborghini Diablo. Its wedge profile and upward-hinging doors continue to influence both motorsport specials and modern Lamborghini road cars.
