Produced for the 2012–2015 model years, the ninth-generation Honda Civic served as the immediate follow-up to the eighth-gen car while slotting ahead of the tenth-gen redesign that arrived for 2016. It carried forward Civic's reputation for economy and practicality in a slightly reshaped package.
Changeover years
Honda launched the ninth-gen Civic for model-year 2012, ending production after the 2015 run. North-American lots saw the range debut in spring 2011, which is why some references list 2011–2016, while other markets aligned deliveries with the 2012–2015 period. This calendar stagger meant early adopters in late 2011 were already driving what press called the ‘2012 Civic’.
Dimensions
Compared with its predecessor, the new Civic trimmed width to 1 770 mm and settled at 1 472 mm tall. The lower roofline and modest reduction in girth contributed to improved aerodynamics and slightly reduced frontal area without cutting into cabin headroom.
Model cycle
Positioned between the eighth- and tenth-generation Civics, the ninth-gen range encompassed sedan, coupe, hybrid, and natural-gas variants, plus a re-worked Si performance version. Engineers retuned the suspension, upgraded sound deadening, and introduced new infotainment systems while keeping familiar 1.8-litre and 2.4-litre i-VTEC engines that carried over largely unchanged.
