Honda launched the 10th-generation Civic in 2015, taking the compact hatchback/sedan into a sportier, more mature direction and moving global production to a new platform. It remains on sale today alongside the all-new Eleventh-generation, making it the longest-running Civic generation in the nameplate’s five-decade history.
History
Unveiled from late 2015, the tenth-generation Civic replaced the ninth-gen model on an all-new modular platform that lowered the sedan by about 20 mm and widened the body to 1 799 mm for the first truly global-market Civic. Production was split among plants in Japan, North America, the U.K., Turkey and later Mexico and Thailand, ensuring simultaneous sales across North America, Europe and Asia.
Design & Dimensions
The exterior swapped conservative sheet-metal for a fastback roofline and aggressive front end, with most markets sharing one exterior design instead of separate regional versions. The wider track (1 799 mm) helped push the wheels to the corners for a planted stance, while the body-in-white grew 68 mm longer in sedan form and 104 mm for the hatchback.
Generations & Variants
Besides the standard sedan and hatchback, Honda added the two-door Civic Coupe, the high-performance Civic Type R hatch (including the first factory-delivered U.S. Type R), and the Civic Si coupe/sedan. A subtle mid-cycle refresh in 2019 updated bumpers, added LED lighting and revised interior trim without altering the fundamental platform.
Legacy
With cumulative sales well over 2 million units, the 10th-gen Civic anchored Honda’s rebound in core markets and served as the engineering donor for the current CR-V and Accord. Its fastback design language influenced every Honda that followed, and the turbo-only (in many markets) engine mix set the brand’s future electrification roadmap.
