Debuting in September 1991 and lasting until 1995, the fifth-generation Honda Civic grew larger, more aerodynamic, and secured its second Japan Car of the Year trophy within months of launch.
Design & Dimensions
Compared to the fourth-generation model, this Civic stretched to 4 080 mm in length while sitting 1 345 mm tall, giving it a visibly sleeker profile. The wheelbase was extended to 257 cm on the three-door hatchback and 262 cm on the four-door sedan, translating directly into a roomier cabin and improved highway stability.
Body Styles & Global Line-up
Honda produced hatchback and sedan variants and quietly retired the Civic Shuttle station wagon for overseas markets; European and Japanese buyers continued to receive the previous-generation wagon instead.
Awards & Recognition
Within weeks of its Japanese launch, the new Civic walked away with Car of the Year Japan honors—only the second time the nameplate had earned the accolade—cementing its reputation for engineering excellence.
