Generations & Naming
Introduced for the 1977 model year, the Continental Mark V succeeded the Mark IV and rounded out the first trilogy of the Mark Series that began in 1969 with the Mark III. Despite its numerical advance, it remains a full-size personal luxury coupe rather than a technical leap, serving as a bridge before the downsized Mark VI arrived for 1980.

The Mark V measures 5850 mm long — 230 inches — making it longer than many full-size pickups of its day, even though it seats only two or four passengers. A shoulder-wide stance at 2024 mm, combined with a low 1356 mm roofline and formal bustle-back rear, gives the car its trademark land-yacht proportions that defined late-1970s American automotive styling.
Legacy
