Ford rolled out the sixth-generation Taurus for 2010, a full-size sedan that gave the model its most radical remake since the Five Hundred years earlier. With fresh styling and the revival of the turbocharged SHO, it served as both the brand’s flagship car and the indirect successor to the Crown Vic in police fleets.
Redesign
The 2010 Taurus stepped away from New Edge design in favor of Ford’s Kinetic Design language. New sheetmetal, lighting, and a far more sculpted profile differentiated it from the softer 2008–2009 model, while the cabin gained higher-grade materials reorganized into a more driver-focused layout.
SHO Returns
Ford re-launched the Taurus SHO, slotting a 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 under the hood—marking the first turbocharged production Taurus. The powertrain, allied to all-wheel-drive and upgraded suspension tuning, pushed the sedan into performance-car territory without losing mainstream practicality.
Fleet Duty
After the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor bowed out in 2011, Ford introduced the Taurus-based Police Interceptor Sedan for 2013. It offered a choice of V6 engines, standard or twin-turbo, plus reinforced chassis parts tailored to law-enforcement demands, extending the Taurus nameplate beyond retail buyers.
