History
The XY Falcon entered production immediately after the XW Falcon and was manufactured exclusively by Ford Australia between 1970 and 1972. Its short two-year run positioned it at the transition point toward the all-new XA Falcon that would adopt a fresh exterior in late 1972.
Design & Dimensions
Riding on the established second-generation Falcon platform, the XY retained the full-size proportions expected of Australian family and fleet sedans of the era. Dimensionally, it spanned 1 869 mm across the beam and stood 1 417 mm tall—figures that reflect its generous but still garage-friendly footprint.
Fairmont Luxury Variant
Beyond the base Falcon range, Ford again offered the Fairmont (XY) as a more refined sibling. Separate badging, upgraded interior trim and additional equipment distinguished the Fairmont, giving buyers a local alternative to imported mid-luxury sedans while keeping purchase and servicing costs modest.
