Introduced in 2006 to replace the Ford Contour, the Americas-market Ford Fusion carved out a fresh place in the mid-size segment as a gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid option that ran for two full generations.
History
Ford launched the first-generation Fusion for the 2006 model year to rejuvenate its mid-size line-up after the Contour ended production. Sales continued through 2020, spanning two distinct design cycles and encompassing conventional gasoline, hybrid, and Energi plug-in hybrid variants, all aimed at family-sedan and eco-conscious buyers alike.
Assembly & Platform
The entire run has been built at Ford’s Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly facility in Sonora, Mexico. It rides on the Ford CD3 platform shared with the Lincoln MKZ and, earlier, the now-discontinued Mercury Milan, giving the Fusion a common engineering backbone with these upscale siblings.
