Ford Contour

In the mid-1990s Ford replaced the European Ford Sierra with the Contour, a front-drive sedan conceived to modernize the brand’s mid-size lineup.
History
The Ford Contour arrived in 1995 as the global successor to the Ford Sierra. Sold in North American markets (where it was marketed alongside its Mercury Mystique twin), the model aimed to blend European chassis dynamics with North American packaging demands. Production continued until the early 2000s, after which no direct replacement carried the Contour nameplate.
Design & Dimensions
Configured as a four-door sedan, the Contour measured 4 689 mm long, 1 755 mm wide and 1 384 mm tall—a footprint noticeably tighter than contemporary U.S. mid-size competitors yet slightly larger than the Sierra it replaced. The transverse-engine layout maximized interior space while keeping overall length in check.
