Revealed first as the glass-roofed Ford Verve concept, the sixth-generation Ford Fiesta arrived in 2008 on a brand-new global platform and quickly became the most exported version of Ford’s long-running supermini.
Launch and Global Roll-out
After appearing at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Ford Verve concept, the production Mk6 Fiesta reached European showrooms in late 2008 and then rolled out across North America, South America, Asia, Australasia and Africa — the first time a Fiesta had been sold on every inhabited continent from day one.
Platform and Design
Engineered as project codes B299 (hatch) and B409 (sedan/van), the Mk6 rides on Ford’s brand-new global B-car platform, underpinning a body that measures just 1 722 mm wide yet remains the roomiest Fiesta to date at launch.
Place in the Fiesta Lineage
Slotting between the 2002 refresh (sometimes called Mk5) and the 2017 seventh generation, the Mk6 raised the bar for material quality and technology while widening Ford’s small-car sales beyond Europe for the first sustained time.
