Ford Australia’s FG Falcon, sold from 2008 to 2014, ushered in the seventh and final chapter of the long-running home-grown full-size sedan. By retiring the Fairmont name and consolidating around a sport-focused G-Series sub-range, the FG marked a clear watershed before the eventual Falcon FGX swansong.
Generations & Timeline
Unveiled in early 2008, the FG ran for six model years before bowing out in 2014. Positioned squarely between the outgoing BF Falcon and the subsequent FGX, it was the only full-size Falcon to carry Seventh-Generation DNA, with no mechanical linkage to the North-American market Falcon of the 1960s.
Design Refresh
Externally the FG brought crisper sheet-metal and a broad 1868 mm stance. More significantly, the Fairmont badge—present on Falcons since 1965—was dropped; G6 (base luxury), G6E and G6E Turbo models filled the gap, giving Ford Australia a simplified three-tier G-Series identity.
Legacy
The FG stands as the last home-grown Falcon platform engineered entirely in Australia, preceding both the global-market sourcing shift and the brand’s exit from local manufacturing. Today, clean FG sedans—especially manual XR6 Turbo and FPV variants—have become keenly watched collectibles.
