The Ford EL Falcon closed out the fifth-generation Australian Falcon line, built from 1996 to 1998 and immediately succeeded by the radical AU Falcon.
Generations & Position
Marking the fifth and final update of the fifth-generation Falcon range, the EL refined the EF it replaced and handed over to the all-new AU in 1998. It also spawned the luxury-oriented Ford Fairmont EL, distinguished by added chrome, woodgrain, and higher equipment levels.
Design Dimensions
Standing 1861 mm wide and 1453 mm tall, the EL retained the full-size proportions required by Australian family, fleet, and police buyers, with only subtle bumper and grille tweaks distinguishing it from the preceding EF.
Short Lifespan
Assembly lasted barely three model years—launching in late 1996, on sale through 1997 and most of 1998—before Ford Australia wiped the slate clean with the controversial oval-styled AU Falcon.
