Launched for the 1993-94 model years, the Ford ED Falcon was a mid-cycle refresh that bridged the gap between the EB and the forthcoming EF. Built by Ford Australia, it refined the EA-EB series platform while giving upscale buyers the distinct Fairmont (ED) trim.
History
Marking the third revision of the EA-generation Falcon, the ED arrived in August 1993 and remained on sale for a single year, replaced by the EF in August 1994. Its short production run makes it the rarest of the EA-lineage Falcons, produced only at Ford Australia’s Broadmeadows and Geelong plants.
Design
Externally, the ED facelift focused on freshening the front fascia: revised grille, bumper and lighting assemblies created a cleaner look while retaining the preceding EB’s muscular stance. At 1,857 mm wide and 1,399 mm tall, the body carried over the same footprint, improving aero details rather than overall size.
Models
Alongside mainstream Falcon sedans and wagons, Ford offered the Fairmont (ED) as the luxury flagship. Unique to this year and flaunting unique trim levels, the ED Fairmont featured upgraded upholstery, climate control and alloy wheels to differentiate itself from work-day fleet Falcons.
