Dodge Spirit

Built in the twilight of Chrysler’s K-platform era, the Dodge Spirit was the Dodge division’s four-door sedan answer for buyers wanting a straightforward American family car from 1989 through 1995. Slotting neatly between the compact Shadow and the larger Dynasty, it bridged the gap left by the 600 while paving the way for the later Stratus.
Position & Heritage
Launched for the 1989 model year, the Dodge Spirit replaced a trio of outgoing models—the Aries, Lancer and 600—within Dodge’s front-drive lineup. By placing it above the shadow and below the Dynasty, Dodge aimed the Spirit squarely at other affordable mid-size sedans of the era.
Design & Dimensions
Every Spirit rolled off the line as a four-door notchback sedan riding on Chrysler’s proven extended-wheelbase K-platform. Exterior measurements of 4,602 mm long, 1,730 mm wide and 1,410 mm tall created a roomy cabin and large trunk without pushing into full-size territory.
Generations & Succession
The model lived for one uninterrupted generation, ending production after 1995. Its direct successor, the Dodge Stratus, arrived soon after and represented a clean-sheet design as Chrysler moved toward the "cab-forward" LH-inspired styling philosophy of the mid-1990s.
