Unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Dodge Demon concept previewed a compact rear-wheel-drive roadster that Dodge hoped would sit one notch below the mighty Viper in its lineup. Despite never advancing past the show-car stage, it resurrected the 'Demon' moniker last used on a 1970s Dart fastback.
Design & Size
With a minimal footprint measuring just 1 735 mm across and 1 316 mm tall, the Demon looked more lithe than muscular compared with its Viper stablemate. The lightweight target weight of 1 197 kg owed much to a projected composite body and aluminum space-frame chassis, hinting at serious agility.
Market Position & Fate
Dodge pitched the Demon as an affordable, sub-Viper halo car—scionFR-S and MX-5 were cited as rivals. Engineering feasibility studies reportedly stalled after Chrysler’s 2007 financial tightening and the Daimler exit, leaving the single prototype the only version ever built.
Legacy of the Demon Name
Although the roadster died, the name survived: Dodge revived 'Demon' in 2018 for the 840-hp Challenger SRT Demon drag-strip special, again spotlighting tire-shredding performance in a very different package.
