Subaru Lucra

From Daihatsu’s stand at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show to Subaru’s dealer network the very next spring, the Subaru Lucra is a re-badged, compact kei car version of the Tanto Exe created to expand both brands’ portfolio in Japan’s tax-friendly micro-car segment.
Origins and Launch
Unveiled as the Daihatsu Tanto Exe in December 2009, the Lucra arrived on 20 April 2010 with almost no sheet-metal changes apart from Subaru’s six-star badging. The dual branding was a low-cost way for Fuji Heavy Industries—Subaru’s parent—to secure a presence in the booming kei-car class without developing its own platform.
Kei Car Dimensions
Folder-tight proportions define the Lucra: 3 395 mm long, 1 475 mm wide and 1 730 mm tall. These measurements keep it well inside the then-current Japanese kei-car regulations, qualifying owners for lower tax and insurance rates while still providing upright seating for four.
Short Lifespan
Despite tidy packaging, the model was quietly phased out after roughly two years. Subaru turned to the newer Chiffon to continue its kei-car offering, leaving the Lucra as a short-term placeholder rather than an enduring nameplate.
