Slotting between cappuccino runs and vintage café culture, the 2004–2009 Daihatsu Move Latte delivered a retro take on Japan’s already boxy kei-car formula.
Retro Design with Purpose
Measuring 3395 mm long and 1630 mm tall, the Move Latte packaged a strictly kei-compliant 660 cc engine but wrapped it in rounded headlamps, two-tone paint and chrome-ringed grillework meant to mimic classic 1960s city cars. Daihatsu spun the sheet-metal from the contemporary L150 Move floorpan, adding softer curves and pastel color palettes to court female café-goers in their late 20s and early 30s.
Generations & Variants
A single short-lived generation ran from 2004 to 2009; no wheelbase or powertrain revisions were offered. After 2009 the styling mantle passed to the Mira Cocoa, itself reinterpreted retro design on the new L250 Mira chassis, effectively ending the Move Latte line.
Kei-Car Practicality
Despite its fashion-first appearance, the Move Latte retained the practical 5-door kei format: 820 kg curb weight, tall 1475 mm roof line for upright seating, and minimal overhangs perfect for Japan’s narrow streets and tight parking bays.
