Design Identity
Built on the F26 internal code, the X4 stretches 4671 mm nose-to-tail at 1881 mm wide and stands 1624 mm tall. Its signature element is a fastback roof that sweeps downward past the C-pillar, creating the silhouette of a coupe while maintaining four doors, a styling bridge between the X3’s practical SUV proportions and the racier image of BMW’s 4-series. Short overhangs and pronounced shoulder creases underscore the ‘SAC’ positioning that BMW coined for this category.
Product Position & Timeline
Launched for the 2014 model year, the F26 X4 was conceived as the little brother to the X6, aiming to tap buyers wanting a lower roofline without stepping up to the larger model. It left the stage when the second-generation X4 (G02) arrived; while no exact end date is specified in public data, parent company guidance now lists the entire X4 line as bowing out in 2025.
