Launched in 2018, the BMW G05 generation X5 brought the fourth iteration of BMW’s mid-size luxury crossover. It replaced the F15 and expanded the lineup with new performance variants introduced just one year after its debut.
Launch & Generations
BMW unveiled the G05 X5 in 2018, and European deliveries began in November of the same year. This generation marks the first built on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, underpinning both mainstream trims and the high-output X5 M introduced on 1 October 2019.
Design & Dimensions
The G05 grows larger in every direction compared with its predecessor: 4 922 mm long, 2 004 mm wide and 1 745 mm tall. Muscular surfacing, enlarged kidney grilles and laser headlamps give the SUV a more assertive stance while retaining the X5’s familiar silhouette.
Performance Variants
Beyond diesel and petrol offerings ranging from the 30d to the M50i, BMW added the X5 M and X5 M Competition (F95) for the 2020 model year. Both utilize a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 producing up to 460 kW, letting the 2.4-tonne crossover sprint to 100 km/h in under 3.9 seconds.
