Launched in 2015 and produced until 2022, the BMW 7 Series (G11/G12) marked the sixth evolution of BMW’s flagship saloon. It brought carbon-core construction, gesture control and comprehensive plug-in hybrid options to the full-size luxury class.
Generations & Variants
Two closely related chassis codes defined this generation: the short-wheelbase G11 and the long-wheelbase G12 sold worldwide. Together they offered standard, xDrive all-wheel-drive and the first-ever 7 Series plug-in hybrid (740e/iPerformance), expanding the range well beyond traditional petrol and diesel powertrains.
Design & Engineering
Weight reduction came from the Carbon Core passenger cell that blends high-strength steel with carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, cutting up to 130 kg. A class-leading 1 902 mm width underpinned a sharper, yet more aerodynamic silhouette, while the cabin debuted BMW’s gesture-control infotainment and world-first touchscreen key.
Legacy
