History
The DB Mark III arrived as an evolution of the DB2/4 Mark II, reflecting Aston Martin’s steady push for more refinement without starting from scratch. Sold for just three model years, it acted as the final iteration of the 1950s DB family before production emphatically swung to the new DB4 in 1959.
Design & Dimensions
At 4.37 m long, 1.65 m wide and 1.36 m tall, the Mark III maintained the purposeful proportions of its ancestor—adding subtle grille and bumper revisions plus a larger rear window for improved rear visibility. Despite the larger cabin glazing, kerb weight remained disciplined at 1,361 kg.
Performance
Power came from the familiar 2.9-litre Lagonda straight-six, subtly re-worked for more reliability and output. In standard tune the engine pushed the grand tourer to a verified 193 km/h, matching most period super-saloons and setting the stage for rapid Aston Martins to come.
Legacy
Although short-lived, the DB Mark III capped the DB2/4 bloodline with a more usable 2+2 layout and cleaner styling cues that previewed later Astons. Collectors now prize it as the last of the pre-DB4 six-cylinder models—an understated farewell before Aston Martin’s engineering leap into the 1960s.
