Unveiled in July 2019, Lotus Evija is the Norfolk firm’s very first battery-electric car, signaling a seismic shift from lightweight petrol specials to high-voltage performance. Limited to just 130 examples, the model also serves as the debut halo product under Chinese ownership.
Design & Engineering
Evija (code-names Type 130 and Omega) stretches 4459 mm long, spreads 2000 mm wide and sits only 1122 mm high—lower than many supercars yet easier to enter thanks to dihedral doors that open clear of the sills. Carbon-fiber architecture helps hold total mass to 1680 kg despite an 80 kWh battery pack feeding four in-house electric motors.
Production & Rarity
Manufacture is confined to Lotus’s Hethel plant, with global output capped at 130 units. Each Evija is built to customer specification after deposit, making sightings as rare as the vehicle code itself.
Legacy in Context
As the brand’s first EV, the Evija re-sets expectations for both Lotus and electric supercars: it carries the marque’s historic focus on lightness into the battery age while serving as a technological roadmap for upcoming Emeya and Eletre models.
