Revealed on 29 March 2022, the Lotus Eletre is the storied British marque’s first-ever SUV and its first battery-electric production vehicle. Built in China, the 5-metre luxury crossover signals Lotus’ pivot from nimble sports cars to high-tech, globally competitive premium EVs.
History
After more than 70 years of two-seat sports cars, Lotus shocked enthusiasts when it announced the Eletre in late March 2022. The model was not only the company’s inaugural SUV but also marked a geographical first: the very first Lotus to enter series production in China, leveraging Geely’s manufacturing resources.
Design
At 5 105 mm long, 2 231 mm wide and 1 630 mm tall, the Eletre is one of the largest vehicles ever to wear a Lotus badge. The muscular proportions house an aerodynamically optimised silhouette with active grille shutters and a split-roof spoiler, distilling traditional Lotus design language into a luxury crossover form factor.
Positioning
Dubbed a “battery electric luxury crossover SUV” by Lotus, the Eletre sits above the Emira sports car in the brand hierarchy and previews the upcoming Emeya electric sedan. As the firm’s volume- and technology-flagship, it introduces the brand to markets where SUVs dominate and electric drivetrains are now mandatory.
