Lamborghini 400GT Monza

English version
While most car-lovers know the production Lamborghini 400 GT of 1966-68, only a single example of the 400 GT Monza ever left Sant’Agata. This one-off show car, built on the 400 GT chassis, previewed design themes that would underpin Lamborghini’s next decade.
Origins
The Monza was commissioned as a special-body coupé on the standard 400 GT steel platform. Modena coachbuilder Neri and Bonacini crafted an aluminum fastback body, blending contemporary Ferrari cues with the more aggressive proportions that had debuted on the 350 GTV prototype. Completed in mid-1967, the car was finished in pearlescent green over a tan leather interior.
Design & Engineering
Headlamps were concealed behind twin Perspex covers flanking a paired-nostril grille, while side vents and a pronounced Kamm tail evoked endurance racers. Mechanically, the Monza retained the production 3.9-litre twin-cam V12 and five-speed gearbox, so output sat at 320 hp—unchanged from the donor 400 GT 2+2.
Single Fate
Displayed once at the 1967 Barcelona Motor Show, the 400 GT Monza immediately became a private collector’s jewel. It never entered series production; Lamborghini redirected attention to the forthcoming Espada. The sole example survives, recently appearing at concours events across Europe.
