The Jaguar XJ220 broke cover in 1992 as a razor-sharp 2-seat supercar co-developed with Tom Walkinshaw Racing, promptly becoming the world's fastest production car with a 217 mph record.
Origins & Production
Conceived in the late-1980s as a technological showcase, the XJ220 was engineered and assembled by a Jaguar–TWR partnership between 1992 and 1994. Only 275 examples were built, each blending chassis and body craftsmanship from Coventry with race-proven components.
Performance Benchmarks
On Italy’s Nardo ring, Jaguar certified the XJ220 at 217 mph (349 km/h), a figure that elevated it above every rival production car for 1992–1993. A pre-production car also lapped the Nürburgring in 7:46.36—record territory for a road-legal vehicle in 1991.
Design & Dimensions
Its jet-fighter proportions—4 930 mm long, 2 220 mm wide, 1 140 mm low—are wrapped around a slim-line 1 470 kg composite structure. The result is slippery aerodynamics and a visual presence that still looks contemporary today.
