Unveiled at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, the Jaguar XK 180 is a one-off concept created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original XK line, acting as a rolling showcase for the marque’s design and engineering talents.
History & Purpose
Jaguar Cars built the XK 180 specifically for its golden jubilee of the XK nameplate. Rather than preview a future production model, the car was conceived as a demonstration piece, highlighting what Jaguar’s stylists, craftsmen and engineers could achieve when freed from the constraints of assembly-line feasibility.
Design & Dimensions
The concept is a two-seat roadster with compact proportions: 4,417 mm long and 1,821 mm wide, rolling on a chassis kept to just 1,565 kg. Classic XK cues—long bonnet, oval grille, and sculpted rear haunches—are reinterpreted through modern surfacing and detailing, signalling Jaguar’s direction for 21st-century sports-car aesthetics.
Legacy
Since its Paris debut, the XK 180 has toured global events as a static display, later finding residence in Jaguar’s own heritage collection. It remains an influential reference point for design studies and collector interest, representing the brand’s ability to honour its lineage while pushing contemporary technology and artistry.
