Infiniti J30

English version
Introduced for 1993, the Infiniti J30 replaced the M30 as Nissan's indirect answer to the Lexus GS and Acura Legend, debuting in the U.S. market with unmistakable rounded sheetmetal.
Design
At 4 880 mm long and only 1 389 mm tall, the J30 was unusually sleek for a 1990s executive sedan. Its curved roofline and wide-track stance created a small back seat, prompting later analysts to label the J30 an early four-door coupé. Exposed doorskins and hidden B-pillars reinforced the flowing look.
Market positioning
Infiniti positioned the J30 between the compact G20 and flagship Q45 both dimensionally—1770 mm wide—and by price. Sold in the U.S. from 1993, it arrived after the Lexus GS and Acura Legend had already staked claims to the mid-size luxury niche.
Successor
Production ended after 1997 without a direct replacement in North America. In Japan, the equivalent role was assumed by the Nissan Cefiro (A32/A33), itself marketed in other regions under the Infiniti I30 nameplate.
