Honda Today

Produced for roughly two decades, the Honda Today was Honda’s kei-car offering between the original Life and the Life’s eventual return, slotting into the strictly 660-cubic-centimetre segment of the Japanese market.
History
Honda placed the Today in the lineup after the first-generation Honda Life bowed out, then brought the Life nameplate back once Today production ended. This back-and-forth swap is typical kei-car product planning used to refresh compact lineups without abandoning popular nameplates.
Dimensions
Kei-class regulations in the late 20th century capped cars at 3.4 m and 660 cc, and the Today’s 3195 mm x 1395 mm x 1315 mm footprint fell neatly within the limits, maximising interior volume while minimising tax and insurance penalties for Japanese buyers.
Legacy
Although today overshadowed by the N-series that followed, the Today helped Honda refine micro-van conversion layouts and evolved many components later reused in the reinvented Life, contributing design lessons to the brand’s ongoing kei-car evolution.
