Honda Concerto

Slotting above the Civic but beneath the Accord, the Honda Concerto was Honda’s late-1980s bid for European buyers, produced from 1988 to 1996 as a joint project with the Austin Rover Group.
History
Honda launched the Concerto in Japan on 15 June 1988 and rolled it out across European markets one year later, in October 1989. Japanese builds ended in October 1992, while the British plant kept producing until 1995, making 1996 the final model year worldwide. The car replaced the Honda Ballade and later handed duties to the Honda Domani.
Design & Dimensions
Developed side-by-side with Rover’s 200/400 series, the Concerto shared underpinnings but wore clean, conservative sheetmetal pitched at European design tastes. Length sits at 4,220 mm, width at 1,690 mm and height at 1,395 mm—classic compact-class proportions with a longer roofline allowing a sizeable boot and passenger space.
Markets & Legacy
All Japan-market examples were sold exclusively through the Honda Clio dealership chain. Despite modest volumes, the model reinforced Honda’s push into Europe and previewed closer Rover–Honda collaboration projects seen through the 1990s.
