Lincoln MKX

Ford positioned Lincoln into the booming luxury-crossover segment with the MKX, a two-generation mid-size SUV developed from 2007 to 2018 and replaced by the Lincoln Nautilus.
Generations
Introduced for 2007, the first-generation Lincoln MKX rode on Ford’s CD3 platform and shared virtually all sheet metal and mechanicals with the Ford Edge, differentiated by Lincoln’s waterfall grille and more upscale trim. A second-generation redesign arrived for the 2016 model year with sleeker lines, LED lighting signatures, and an interior facelift before the line was rechristened Lincoln Nautilus for 2019.
Design
At 4,735 mm long and 1,925 mm wide, the MKX’s proportions matched the Ford Edge yet adopted Lincoln-specific cues: split-wing grille, jeweled headlamps, and interior appointments that included Bridge of Weir leather seats, real wood accents, and a panoramic glass roof on upper trims.
Legacy
As Lincoln transitioned away from alphanumeric names, the MKX offered buyers a premium crossover alternative in North America and key export markets. It bridged the gap between the compact MKC and full-size MKT, paving the way for the brand’s quieter-luxury renaissance embodied by its Nautilus successor.
