Between 1965 and 1966 the Australian-built Ford XP Falcon capped off the first-generation Falcon line, bridging the gap from XM to XR while adding the Fairmont luxury variant. Its tidy dimensions and 1175 kg curb weight made it nimble by mid-Sixties family-car standards.

The XP was the fourth and final update to Ford Australia's original Falcon range before the all-new XR arrived. Alongside the mainstream Falcon sedans and wagons, Ford introduced the Fairmont (XP), a better-trimmed companion aimed at buyers seeking comfort without stepping up to the larger Fairlane.
Design & Dimensions
Measuring 4658 mm long, 1781 mm wide and 1420 mm tall, the XP blended clean early-Sixties lines with minor grille and trim revisions that set it apart from the XM. These compact exterior proportions delivered usable interior space while keeping overall mass around 1175 kg, lighter than many contemporaries.
Legacy
The short-lived 1965-1966 run cemented the XP as the last of the ‘compact’ Falcons before Ford Australia upsized its offering. Today, the Fairmont nameplate introduced with the XP grew into a long-running sub-brand, and surviving examples are sought after as early markers of Australia’s uniquely local Falcon evolution.
