Ford Taunus P2

History
Ford Germany brought out the Taunus 17M in August 1957 as its second clean-sheet design following WWII. Internally tagged "Project 2," the P2 arrived to tackle the blossoming family-saloon segment of West Germany’s economic miracle. Production ended three years later in August 1960, clearing the way for its evolutionary successor, the Taunus P3.
Design & Dimensions
The P2’s crisp lines and panoramic windshield were flanked by modest tailfins and a bright two-tone color palette that echoed Detroit trends, yet kept European proportions. Its footprint was compact for the era: 4,375 mm long, 1,670 mm wide and 1,500 mm tall, giving four adult passengers genuine comfort without bulk.
Place in the Taunus Line
Although sold simply as the 17M, the P2’s fresh platform and sheet-metal set it apart from its predecessor. The "P2" suffix was never used in showrooms; enthusiasts and historians later adopted it to distinguish this generation from the later facelifted 17M P3 and other Taunus models that reused the 17M badge.
