Ford Model N

Unveiled in 1906, the Ford Model N marked Ford’s third attempt at an entry-level car, sandwiched between the fancier Model F and the world-changing Model T. It was the first Ford volume model built at the purpose-built Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit.
Position in Ford’s Early Line-up
The Model N replaced the Ford Model F as the company’s budget offering, sitting below larger and costlier models of the era. It was conceived explicitly to capture the growing market of motorists who needed a reliable but inexpensive automobile, a brief that would be carried forward by its famous successor, the Model T two years later.
Design & Production Facilities
Each Model N was assembled at Ford’s brand-new Piquette Avenue Plant—a three-story brick factory that became the automaker’s primary production hub prior to Highland Park. Construction on the plant began right as Model N development concluded, positioning the model as the first to fully benefit from the efficiency of a purpose-built Ford facility.
