Ford GT (2004–2006)

History & Inspiration
In 2002 Ford showed a concept that echoed the 1960s GT40 exactly 100 inches taller than the original racer. Positive reaction at auto shows fast-tracked production, with 2004 model-year deliveries targeting enthusiasts wanting a street-legal homage to Ford’s four straight Le Mans victories (1966-69). Just over 4,000 units were completed between August 2004 and September 2006 at Wixom, Michigan.
Design & Dimensions
Every panel channels the GT40: long nose, clipped tail, dihedral doors, and flying-buttress rear pillars. Yet the car is 18% larger for modern safety, spanning 4,643 mm nose-to-tail, 1,953 mm wide (without mirrors) and only 1,125 mm tall. Weight sits at 1,595 kg thanks to aluminum space-frame and hand-formed aluminum bodywork.
Engineering & Performance
A mid-mounted supercharged 5.4 L V8 (550 hp, 500 lb-ft) drives the rear wheels through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle. Brembo monobloc calipers and 18"/19" wheels handle braking, while race-style pushrod suspension keeps the ride height low without scraping everyday driveways.
Legacy
The 2004–2006 GT reset Ford’s supercar credentials and became a blue-chip collectible, regularly topping resale charts. Its technical foundation later informed both second-gen Ford GT racing programs and Ford Performance road-car architecture.
