Market Impact
From launch through 1996 and 1997, the Fiesta Mark IV outsold every rival in the UK, finally losing the top spot only when the first-generation Ford Focus, intended as a gazumped Escort replacement, arrived in 1998. Its reign as Britain’s best-selling car for three successive years is the clearest metric of its retail appeal.
Design Cues
Ford softened the previous model’s sharp angles into smoother, rounder sheetmetal without altering the basic footprint. Inside, higher-spec trim gained a revised dashboard and more up-market switchgear, bridging the gap between city car and compact family hatch.
Generations & Facelift Note
Although officially the Mark IV, the later mid-cycle refresh is occasionally—and unofficially—referred to as the Fiesta Mark V, adding confusion for enthusiasts now sifting through used listings.
