Ford E-Series

The E-Series debuted in 1961 as Ford’s answer to the growing demand for larger, more versatile vans. Introduced to replace the F-Series panel van, it soon became the brand’s default large-van offering for over five decades, bridging the gap between pickup utility and full-size transport.

Across four distinct generations, the E-Series evolved from utilitarian two-doors to modern workhorses with increasingly refined powertrains and longer wheelbases. Beyond standard cargo and passenger models, Ford produced cutaway cabs and stripped-chassis versions that underpin countless motorhomes, ambulances, and delivery rigs.

Primarily targeting commercial buyers while still available to families, the E-Series dominated U.S. fleet sales and rental counters. Ford gradually shifted focus to the global Ford Transit starting in 2014, relegating the E-Series to cutaway/chassis-cab duty as the Transit assumed traditional van roles.
