Introduced in September 2022, the Ferrari Purosangue marks the Prancing Horse’s long-anticipated entry into the SUV arena—Ferrari’s first-ever four-door production car and first utility vehicle in the marque’s 75-year history.
History & Launch
Unveiled on 13 September 2022, the Purosangue was developed over several years as Ferrari wrestled with the conflicting demands of creating an authentic “Ferrari” and satisfying global SUV demand. The name means ‘thoroughbred’ in Italian, signalling Maranello’s attempt to recast the genre with rear-biased performance. It enters the same segment as the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX but remains the first and only Ferrari model with full four-door usability.
Design & Dimensions
At 4 937 mm long, 2 028 mm wide and 1 589 mm tall, the mid-size silhouette rides low for its class, closer to a raised fastback than a conventional SUV. Wide tracks, a long bonnet and fastback roofline aim to retain classic Ferrari proportions while accommodating four adults and luggage. Aerodynamic elements—active flaps, a ventilated bonnet and aero-optimized wheel arches—are tuned to exceed 310 km/h top speed.
Segment & Competition
By launching the Purosangue in late 2022, Ferrari created a new battleground between mid-size luxury crossovers focused on outright performance. The car is positioned above the conventional SUV set yet distinct from traditional grand tourers, allowing it to claim buyers seeking supercar dynamics with daily practicality.
