Sold from 1993 through 2004, the Dodge Intrepid was a full-size American sedan that marked Dodge’s major push into the new “cab-forward” era, replacing the boxier Dynasty and setting the stage for today’s Charger LX.
History
The Intrepid debuted for the 1993 model year as Dodge’s flagship full-size sedan. Riding on the new Chrysler LH platform, it supplanted the aging Dodge Dynasty and paved the way for modern rear-wheel drive models that supplanted it after 2004.
Design
Chrysler’s “cab-forward” philosophy pushed the wheels to the corners and the windshield closer to the front axle, endowing the Intrepid with unusually long doors and a spacious cabin for its time. Four front-hinged doors made this a true family sedan rather than the coupes Dodge had prioritized in prior decades.
Model years & variants
Throughout its 12-year run the Intrepid saw two distinct generations (1993–1997 and 1998–2004). It shared its underpinnings with several corporate siblings including the Chrysler 300M, Concorde, LHS, New Yorker, and Eagle Vision, yet retained unique Dodge exterior styling and trim.
Legacy
When production ended in 2004, the Intrepid passed the torch to the rear-wheel-drive Dodge Charger LX. The cab-forward concept’s influence lingered in Chrysler design language, but the sedan ultimately shifted back to RWD performance cues that define Dodge’s current lineup.
