History
Dodge introduced the Fast Four in 1927 to modernise its range. The model replaced the Dodge 126 (its last four-cylinder of the early 1920s) and remained on sale for just two model years, after which the company replaced it with the heavier-duty Wayfarer. Despite its brief lifespan, the car was a decisive transition piece in Dodge’s shift toward more refined family motoring.
Generations and Variants
Rather than using yearly updates, Dodge marketed the Fast Four across three simultaneous series: 124, 128 and 129. Each differed slightly in trim, wheelbase and equipment, allowing buyers to select from basic coachwork up to more luxurious closed saloon variants. All retained Dodge’s signature upright radiator shell and artillery-style wooden wheels typical of the period.
Design and Specifications
Key dimensions were modest by modern standards: 4200 mm long, 1730 mm wide and 1780 mm high. Curb mass was a sturdy 1460 kg, reflecting the steel-panel construction and the robust four-cylinder engine. Plain, squared-off lines and a high roofline gave the Fast Four an honest commercial look aimed squarely at middle-class buyers seeking reliability over glamour.
