Position in the Buick Line
The Serie D-Four occupied a middle tier in Buick's 1910s naming system, slotting between lighter four-cylinder models and the upcoming six-cylinder Standard Six. Its designation with a letter-series suffix reflects early Buick practice of grouping cars by engine type and chassis size—an approach later simplified by the single-number Standard line.
Engineering Snapshot
Little preserved documentation exists on the exact displacement, bore, or chassis dimensions of the Serie D-Four. Contemporary accounts describe it as a right-hand-drive, mechanically-braked touring car typical of its era, emphasizing reliability over raw speed. Standard wheelbase and open touring body styles dominated production.
Legacy & Succession
Production lasted only a couple of model years before the line was replaced wholesale by the Buick Standard Six in the early 1920s. The shift to a single alphanumeric nomenclature marked Buick's first step toward the modern naming conventions still recognizable today, consolidating previous letter-series models under a clearer 'Six' designation.
