From the 1953 London Motor Show to the end of 1957, Riley Motors Limited offered the Pathfinder as its flagship—a four-year bridge between the wartime-derived RM line and the upcoming Two-Point-Six.
Origins
Riley rolled the first Pathfinder onto its stand at the 1953 London Motor Show, signalling a modest but visible step forward from the outgoing RMF. As the marque’s new range-topper, it had to carry Riley’s reputation for restrained British luxury into the mid-1950s marketplace.
Design & Dimensions
Built on an unmistakably conservative post-war British outline, the Pathfinder stretched 4648 mm long, spanned 1702 mm across and stood 1520 mm tall—large for the era—while tipping the scales at a reassuring 1549 kg. The proportions hinted at classically formal saloon tastes rather than sleek new jet-age styling.
Lineage & Succession
Production ended after four quiet years when Riley, now part of the British Motor Corporation, moved on to the mechanically related Riley Two-Point-Six, effectively ending the Pathfinder’s short chapter and, in many ways, closing the book on standalone Riley big-car development.
