Riley One-Point-Five

Built between 1957 and 1965, the Riley One-Point-Five merged Morris Minor underpinnings with a sprightly 1.5-litre B-Series engine to fill the gap left by the Riley RM. Its badge-engineered companion, the Wolseley 1500, shared every panel yet each brand gave the compact saloon its own upmarket spin.
Genesis & Background
With the Riley RM line ending in the early 1950s, British Motor Corporation needed a modern small–medium Riley to keep the marque alive. Pooling parts already in production for the Morris Minor and MG Magnette, BMC created a new model that could wear both Riley and Wolseley badges without costly tooling changes.
Beneath the Skin
The One-Point-Five sits on the Minor’s 3861 mm-long floor pan and shares its steering rack and suspension—wishbones and torsion bars at the front, leaf-sprung live axle at the rear. Power comes from BMC’s 1,489 cc B-Series four, mated to the stronger four-speed gearbox borrowed from the MG Magnette series. Kerb weight is a modest 940 kg, keeping performance lively for its day.
Design & Trim
Visually the car is distinct from its Morris sibling: Riley dressed the One-Point-Five with a more ornate grille, extra chrome, and wood-and-leather interior touches aimed at traditional Riley customers. Twin-carb and later models gained a tachometer integrated into the dash and two-tone paint options finished in period colors such as Carmen Red over Snowberry White.
