Launched on 26 October 1948, the Morris Six MS brought six-cylinder power back to Morris Motors Limited after the war and stood as the flagship saloon in their first post-war line-up alongside the Minor and Oxford.
History and Launch
Announced to the public on Tuesday 26 October 1948, the Morris Six MS was positioned as the range-topping Morris and carried a launch price of £607 in the UK. By 1 March 1949 the price had climbed to £671, reflecting post-war inflation. Production ended in 1953, after which the larger Morris Isis took over.
Engineering and Design
The Series MS was built on the then-new Morris practice of integral chassis–body construction and rode on independent front suspension via torsion bars—a significant advance over leaf-spring predecessors. A six-cylinder engine gave the saloon a top speed of 130 km/h, the charted envelope for post-war British family motoring.
Dimensions and Positioning
At 4 496 mm long, 1 770 mm wide and 1 600 mm tall, the car fit neatly into the mid-range saloon segment, slotting above the four-cylinder Oxford and below the Wolseley products within the shared Nuffield family.
