The Morris 250 JU appeared at the 1967 Commercial Motor Show, carrying Morris Commercial branding during the final years before the formation of British Leyland. It directly replaced the Morris J2 and, despite scant marketing fanfare, kept British workshops and fleets supplied until more modern alternatives from LDV arrived.
Engineering & Performance
Under the stubby bonnet sits the long-serving BMC B-Series in 1.6-litre form, tuned for torque with 49 bhp at a 7.2:1 compression ratio. The forward-control layout gives tight turning and maximum load length, while a modest 93 km/h top speed prioritised durability and economy over pace.
Market Impact & Transition
Morris sold the 250 JU primarily to builders, post offices and utility fleets who appreciated its simple mechanicals and large cargo volume. It quietly filled the gap until the early 1980s, when the design evolved into the Leyland DAF Pilot series, ending Morris-branded small vans for good.
