The M4 CSL picks up where the 2003 BMW M3 CSL left off, carrying the Coupe Sport Leichtbau (coupe, sport, lightweight) designation last seen on the E46. Revealed in May 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of BMW M, the CSL instantly became the flagship of the G82 range, tasked with delivering a purer driving experience than any standard M4.
Design & Weight Reduction
Carbon fiber defines the CSL: a bare CFRP roof, hood, trunk, and extensive interior trim shave roughly 240 lb compared with a base M4 Competition. Unique front splitter, red-accented grille surrounds, and yellow-accented laser headlights differentiate the silhouette, while sculpted bucket seats and omission of rear seating underscore single-minded focus.
Performance Engineering
Under the vented hood sits the S58 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, tuned to 543 hp—40 more than the M4 Competition—channeled exclusively through an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. Adaptive M dampers, solid-mounted subframes, and bespoke Michelin Cup 2 R tires deliver lateral grip that set a 7:15 Nürburgring lap time on M’s official test run.

Exactly 1,000 units were allocated globally for model-year 2023—700 earmarked for North America and 300 for other markets—making the M4 CSL the rarest modern M4.
