BMW M2 represents the entry point into BMW M's high-performance range, growing from the 2 Series (successor to the 1 Series coupé and convertible) into the most compact and now most accessible M car.
Heritage
Developed by BMW M GmbH, the M2 emerged as the smaller sibling to the M3/M4 when BMW split the 1 Series into the 2 Series lineup. Its role was clear: distil core M ingredients—sharp chassis tuning, powerful forced-induction engines and bespoke styling—into a shorter, lighter package while keeping the price below bigger M cars.
Design & Dimensions
Measuring 4468 mm long, 1854 mm wide and just 1410 mm tall, the M2 retains the 2 Series’ classic coupé silhouette but gains flared arches, deeper bumpers and four exhaust tips. The compact footprint keeps weight down and improves agility, while the low roofline and wide stance give it an unmistakable visual punch next to standard 2 Series models.
Current Position
Today the M2 sits as the smallest and least expensive path into BMW’s M division, offering two usable rear seats and a usable boot for everyday driving while still carrying the mechanical upgrades—uprated brakes, M-tuned suspension, unique axles and limited-slip differential—that separate it from regular 2 Series variants.
