Generations & Context
The G45 succeeds the 2017-era G01 and becomes the new core of the X3 lineup slated for markets model-year 2025 onward. By cleaving the fully electric variant into the standalone NA5 iX3 on BMW’s new EV architecture, the G45 focuses solely on combustion and hybrid roles, tightening production flexibility.
Engineering & Platform
As before, the G45 sits on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, now configured for 48-V mild-hybrid assistance alongside updated plug-in hybrid systems. The move keeps weight low while meeting stricter emissions, without necessitating the high-voltage skateboard required by the Neue Klasse-based iX3.
Variants & Powertrains
BMW is expected to launch rear-wheel and xDrive all-wheel-drive trims powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinders and 3.0-liter inline-six units, each backed by electric assistance ranging from belt-alternator starter systems to larger PHEV packs capable of pure-electric urban driving.
