The 1996 Aston Martin V8 bridged the gap between the muscular Virage and the forthcoming V12 Vanquish, representing the last word in hand-built British grand tourers before the century turned.
Background & Heritage
Arriving late in the Virage lineage, the short-run 1996 V8 was effectively the final specification of a model that had anchored Aston Martin’s lineup since 1989. With the DB7 already signalling a more modern future, engineers focused on incremental refinement rather than wholesale change, yielding a very low-volume flagship that served the company’s most traditional clientele.
Design & Dimensions
The wide 1924 mm stance and low 1330 mm roofline gave the V8 a confident road presence, subtly updated from earlier Virage panels with cleaner bumpers and reshaped lighting. Hand-formed aluminium panels over a steel backbone retained Aston Martin’s blend of classic proportions and 1990s aero detailing.
Legacy
Production concluded after just one year as Aston Martin shifted resources to the incoming V12 Vanquish platform. As a result, 1996 V8s became scarce references for enthusiasts tracking the brand’s transition from eight-cylinder Virage era to the full-throttle Vanquish years.
