From 2004 to 2016, the Aston Martin DB9 carried the torch from the DB7 and kept the Gaydon factory busy with hand-built two-door grand tourers that defined the brand’s modern look and aluminium VH architecture.
Generations & Body Styles
Introduced first as a coupé for model-year 2004, the DB9 added the cloth-top Volante convertible the following year and both continued virtually unchanged until the line ended in 2016. One clear succession story: DB7 → DB9 → DB11.
Design & Dimensions
Aston Martin’s in-house design team created the sleek proportion of a classic GT: 4 710 mm long, 1 875 mm wide and only 1 320 mm high. The low-slung silhouette adapted elegantly to both the fixed-head coupé and the power-retractable Volante bodywork.
Legacy
The DB9 proved that a modern aluminium chassis and hand-finished luxury could coexist profitably and set the template for every Aston Martin that followed at Gaydon, right up to and including its direct successor, the DB11.
